GILES CO., Va. (WVVA) – The New River at Glen Lyn reached major flood stage Friday morning. The crest reached 18.93 feet, which is a top five crest for the New River at Glen Lyn. Campgrounds like the Riverview Campground were underwater Friday. Picnic shelters and playgrounds were completely taken over by the high water. This comes just before the holiday weekend, which will hurt the campgrounds revenue said Riverview Campground Manager David Farley. "With it being Memorial Day weekend. All of this water coming in is defientely going to hurt us. And as far as fishing at the bait shop, there won’t be many people fishing."
