GLEN CARBON — Flash flooding took the village of Glen Carbon and its residents by surprise Sunday as overnight and early morning storms made water rise in yards, streets, parking lots and village parks. Glen Carbon’s fire and police departments were assisted by Illinois State Police when they responded to a call of multiple vehicles and passengers stranded on Route 162 Sunday morning due to high floodwaters. Seven passengers were rescued from four different cars. The road remained closed throughout the afternoon as tow trucks removed stranded cars and removed debris. This is a modal window.
